The Myths addressed in this article by Working Mother are real and the author rightly points out that we’re held back from enjoying life when we get caught up chasing “productivity.”
But breaking the mental grip that these myths have on us can be difficult. Here are three little steps to tackle each one in 30-second bits each day:
Start Busting Myth One: We are human. There is not a person on the planet who can do it all. Picking 2-3 top items to achieve each day is enough (and if they get pushed to tomorrow, that’s ok!). And remembering that those around us are human is also a priority – when each kid gets home, taking 30 seconds to look each of them in the eye, ask them about their day/practice, ask a follow up question or make a sincere, positive comment about what they’ve share with us will go a long way in helping them feel heard and valued as a human (same goes for partners)
Start Busting Myth Two: With so many “departments” in our life, finding simple tools to support our tasks helps manage each area. I don’t use all the functionality of Organizeats App, but listing out my dinner plan for the week…and then taking 30 seconds to look at it on trash day helps clear my fridge out of old leftovers (yup, meatballs have been in there too long, time to toss)
Start Busting Myth Three: Take 30 seconds for yourself every couple of hours. A cool paper towel to the back of the neck; 10 slow breaths with your eyes closed; 30 seconds of staring yourself in the eye and smiling at the amazing human that you are. Taking 30 seconds away from the to do list and the inbox
